A Greener Way to Gift Wrap

I recently found out that half the paper consumed in the U.S. every year is for wrapping and decorating items. Yes, you read that correctly, half. Wrapping gifts for the holidays seems so harmless as having done this for all these years, but Holiday gift-giving can leave mountains of hard-to-recycle wrapping paper, bows, and bags.  Seeing as how watching someone open a gift can be just as fun as getting one I’m not suggesting not wrapping presents, but showing loved ones you care doesn’t have to mean overfilled trash bins. Us at 15 lightyears, Florida’s solar installation company wanted to share some ideas with anyone who may want to try and challenge themselves to wrap the gifts you give more creatively than newly-bought paper.

The Brown Paper Bag

Whether you reuse the bag from Starbucks or cut up your grocery bags to wrap the present comes off classy as well as eco-friendly.

The Kids Creations

It’s always so hard to throw away your child’s work of art so what better way to keep their masterpieces alive and it’s truly a hit when used for the grandparents.

Just Plain Paper

Paper can be pretty fun to use and you can get real creative with it.  This is where you can feel free to let your creativity explode by writing poems, song lyrics, a note, whatever.  Use Duct tape or colored tape to add a little flair.

Cloth

This is not only a great way to wrap a present but it very well could be the oldest way as it’s been used for centuries.  Japan still favors it.

The Glass Jar

What was once a catchall device for your everyday hipster has truly turned into a catchall for everyone... or I’m an unaware hipster. In any case, the mason jar is the perfect way to give Christmas treats, drinks, and other gifts.

The Newspaper

Yes, the newspaper. There are still some of us out there who appreciate the nostalgia and comfort that comes with getting our news the old fashion way. If you happen to fall into this group then there is no better looking gift than one that is wrapped with newsprint.

Hope this has sparked some ideas of your own to us this Holiday Season.
